Jim Collins (2001) wrote that in a good company, everybody does what is required.  In a great company, everybody does a little bit more.  To get your people to do more than what they need to do, and make your company great, a strong, positive organisational culture that allows for innovation and creativity is required. What you’re looking for is discretionary effort – the effort that your team will invest even if they don’t have to.

In today’s “war for talent” your organisational culture can act as an attractor of good talent.  People want to work in a business where the employees are happy, and will seek out a role in your organisation.
